FUTURE PLANS
In 2010, Senn Brothers will relocate to the new State Farmers Market location in Lexington County.
The new South Carolina State Farmers Market will be a state-of-the-art facility that provides the agricultural community of South Carolina with a one-of-a-kind venue in which to showcase South Carolina products. The new market design is based upon a clearly defined plan that provides separate and distinct areas for the major wholesale vendors, the retail sale of South Carolina agricultural products with a section specifically designed for this purpose, and also a farmers shed section, which will be owned and operated by the South Carolina Department of Agriculture. The overall plan offers Columbia the unique opportunity of having an updated and modern public market that will provide an expanded menu of services, including artisan products and sustainably-farmed produce from local growers and merchants.
Senn Brothers new facility will provide 25,000 square feet of state-of-the-art refrigerated storage space, 10,000 square feet less than the current facility. This will occupy a smaller “footprint” and reduce environmental impact. Plans include expanded cold storage through utilizing a “single-stack” storage system that will basically cool more products in less space.
The overall building design will incorporate innovative “green” technology to assure the highest level of energy efficiency and environmental protection in the cold storage and delivery of fresh produce.
Senn Brothers looks forward to its role as a leading partner in the Columbia State Farmers Market’s anticipated growth and expansion into a large, full-line wholesale and retail public market.
